Theme 6: Voight Kampff test (Blade Runner)

Theme 6: Voight Kampff test (Blade Runner)

For this Theme 6: Voight Kampff test (Blade Runner) My long time love for the novel by Philip K Dick  Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? and the movie Blade Runner, had to bring Sam to the Idea, soon or later to give me a new theme commission inspired by the movie Blade Runner. So when I saw my new theme I immediately knew that I would have a lot of fun, and I wanted to give it my own look and feel. So I started with what is the voigh kampff test all about. The Voight-Kampff is a polygraph-like machine used by the LAPD’s Blade Runners to assist in the testing of an individual to see whether they are a replicant or not. It measures bodily functions such as respiration, heart rate, blushing and eye movement in response to emotionally provocative questions. So in the movie thy used this device with little screens that focused on those parts. The biggest screen was that to monitor the eye movement. So I focused on the eye part of the voight kampff test for this theme. I used for inspiration a quote from Eldon Tyrell: “Is this to be an empathy test? Capillary dilation of the so-called blush response…fluctuation of the pupil…involuntary dilation of the iris”. So I had to have an image of an eye… What better eye to use than my own eye :-). I made a photo shoot of my own eye and started from there. Editing my eye in Photoshop separating it from my head so that it looks like my eye has been scanned out of my head and appears inside the monitoring graphics of the Voight-Kampff test. I used Illustrator in combination with Photoshop to create the graphics. I gave it all a more dramatic look and a hint of the 80’s colour style used in the movie.

Hope you like the work I put into it, I had a great time creating this.
